How the gut and liver hibernate

The science of hibernation (in which there are many facets!) has to be one of the most exciting and tantalizing areas of research. During my post doc at the University of Wisconsin-Madison I was fortunate enough to collaborate with Dr. Hannah Carey looking at post translational modifications in nuclear proteins over the torpor cycle.

Hannah, as a recipient of the prestigious August Krogh Distinguished Lectureship Award at the American Physiological Society in 2014, was invited to submit a graphical review for a special issue of Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part A in 2021. This was an exciting opportunity for me as I got to team up with her once more, this time as an illustrator!
